The Rain Bird 1806-SAM is a durable pop-up spray body from the proven Rain Bird 1800 Series, combining a 15.2 cm (6-inch) pop-up height with an integrated Seal-A-Matic™ check valve. This makes it particularly suitable for taller lawns, landscaped areas and irrigation systems with elevation changes. The integrated check valve helps prevent water remaining in the lateral pipe from draining through sprinklers installed at lower elevations after irrigation has stopped.

The Seal-A-Matic™ check valve can hold back water with elevation differences of up to 4.2 m (14 feet). This makes the 1806-SAM particularly useful on sloping lawns, hillsides and properties with varying ground levels. Preventing low-head drainage helps reduce unnecessary water loss, puddling and erosion around sprinklers installed at lower points in the irrigation zone.

With its 15.2 cm pop-up height, the Rain Bird 1806-SAM raises the installed nozzle well above the surrounding grass. It is therefore particularly suitable for taller lawns, ground cover and low vegetation. During irrigation, water pressure raises the stem from the body. When watering stops, a strong retract spring reliably returns the stem into the sprinkler body.

The Rain Bird 1806-SAM is supplied without a nozzle. This allows you to select a suitable Rain Bird spray or rotary nozzle according to the size and shape of the irrigation area. The selected nozzle determines factors such as throw distance, watering pattern and water distribution, allowing the spray body to be adapted to a wide range of irrigation applications.

Like other models in the Rain Bird 1800 Series, the 1806-SAM features a pressure-activated wiper seal that supports reliable stem operation and helps protect the mechanism against dirt and debris. Its durable UV-resistant plastic body and corrosion-resistant stainless steel components are designed for dependable long-term outdoor use.

The 1806-SAM is particularly useful when the 10.2 cm pop-up height of the Rain Bird 1804-SAM does not provide sufficient clearance. Its 15.2 cm stem raises the nozzle higher above the surrounding surface while the integrated SAM check valve provides additional protection against low-head drainage in irrigation systems with elevation changes.

Seal-A-Matic check valve for sloping areas

The integrated Seal-A-Matic™ check valve is the key difference between the Rain Bird 1806-SAM and the standard 1806. When an irrigation zone shuts down, the valve prevents water remaining in higher sections of the lateral pipe from draining through sprinklers installed at lower elevations.

The SAM valve can accommodate elevation differences of up to 4.2 m. This helps reduce unnecessary water loss, puddling and erosion at the lowest points of an irrigation zone, making the 1806-SAM particularly suitable for sloping landscapes.

Compatible nozzles for the Rain Bird 1806-SAM

The Rain Bird 1806-SAM can be combined with a variety of Rain Bird spray and rotary nozzles. The appropriate nozzle can be selected according to the required throw distance, watering pattern and size of the irrigation area. This allows the spray body to be adapted to many different lawn and landscape irrigation applications.

The nozzle is sold separately and is not included with the Rain Bird 1806-SAM.

Installation and use

The Rain Bird 1806-SAM is designed for permanent installation in the ground, with the top of the sprinkler approximately level with the surrounding surface. The SAM version uses the 1/2-inch female threaded bottom inlet. A suitable flexible pipe or swing joint can be used to provide a flexible connection to the underground irrigation pipe.

The 1806-SAM is particularly useful at lower points within an irrigation zone and wherever additional pop-up height is required. For closely cut lawns, the more compact 1804-SAM may be sufficient. For taller grass and low vegetation, the 15.2 cm pop-up height of the 1806-SAM provides additional nozzle clearance.
