50 mm PE pipes for irrigation
PE pipes with a 50 mm diameter are particularly suitable for larger and powerful irrigation systems. Their large cross section allows high volumes of water to be transported efficiently. For this reason, 50 mm PE pipes are often used as main supply lines feeding several irrigation zones or larger sprinkler areas.
Typical applications include large gardens, landscaped areas, sports fields and other sites with higher water requirements. Whether a 50 mm PE pipe is necessary depends on the required flow rate, pipe length, available water pressure and the overall design of your irrigation system.
50 mm PE pipes for high flow rates
As the required water flow increases, pipe diameter becomes increasingly important. A correctly sized PE pipe helps limit pressure losses along longer pipe runs. This is particularly important when powerful pop-up rotors or several sprinklers within the same irrigation zone need to be supplied simultaneously.
When sizing the pipe, consider the total flow requirement of all sprinklers operating at the same time. Pipe length, available water pressure and elevation differences also influence the selection. A larger pipe does not increase the available water pressure, but it can reduce unnecessary pressure losses within the pipework.
Connect and install 50 mm PE pipes
Suitable 50 mm PE compression fittings can be used for installation. Straight connectors extend pipe runs, elbows change direction and tees create branches. Threaded fittings provide transitions to solenoid valves, manifolds and other components within the irrigation system.
The PE pipe should be cut cleanly and as squarely as possible using a pipe cutter or suitable cutting tool designed for the diameter. It can then be assembled with the appropriate fittings according to their installation instructions. After installation, test the pipework for leaks under operating pressure.
Size irrigation main pipes correctly
A 50 mm PE pipe is particularly useful when larger volumes of water need to be transported over longer distances or when several irrigation areas are supplied from a common main line. Smaller pipe diameters can then branch from the main pipe towards individual solenoid valves, sprinkler groups or other irrigation areas.
Plan your pipework according to the required water flow. Smaller areas may only require 25 or 32 mm pipes, while larger systems may benefit from 40 or 50 mm pipes. With correctly sized PE pipes and compatible fittings, you can build a reliable and well organised irrigation system.
