Pop-up sprays with check valves
Pop-up sprays with check valves help prevent water from draining through lower sprinklers after irrigation stops. The integrated check valve keeps water in the pipework, making these spray sprinklers particularly useful for lawns with slopes or elevation changes.

Pop-up sprays with check valves
Pop-up sprays with check valves feature an integrated valve that helps reduce unwanted drainage after irrigation has finished. When the solenoid valve closes the irrigation zone, the check valve helps retain water inside the pipework instead of allowing it to drain through a spray sprinkler installed at a lower point.
This function is particularly useful for automatic lawn irrigation systems with elevation changes. Without a check valve, water remaining inside the pipes can drain through the lowest pop-up spray. This can result in puddles, excessively wet areas around the sprinkler and unnecessary water loss.
Ideal for lawns with elevation changes
On sloping properties, individual spray sprinklers are often installed at different elevations. When irrigation stops, gravity causes the water remaining in the pipes to move towards the lowest point. It can then drain through the lowest sprinkler even though the actual watering cycle has already finished.
An integrated check valve closes after irrigation and helps retain the water column within the limits specified by the manufacturer. Pop-up sprays with check valves are therefore particularly useful for slopes, banks and other lawn areas where sprinklers within the same irrigation zone are installed at different elevations.
Reduce puddling and water loss
Drainage from a low sprinkler can leave the surrounding soil unnecessarily wet. When irrigation is operated regularly, this may create persistently damp areas around the spray body. A check valve helps reduce this effect by keeping more of the remaining water inside the irrigation pipework.
Less water also has to be replaced in partially drained pipes when the next irrigation cycle begins. When selecting a spray body, check the manufacturer's specifications for the maximum elevation difference or holding pressure supported by its check valve, as these values can vary between models.
Choose the right spray body and nozzle
Depending on the model, pop-up sprays with check valves can be combined with different spray nozzles or rotary nozzles. This allows you to select the watering arc and radius according to the shape of your lawn. Also consider available water pressure, flow rate and the required watering distance when planning your system.
Connect the pop-up sprays to your PE pipework using suitable sprinkler connections. Solenoid valves divide the system into separate irrigation zones, while an irrigation controller automates the watering schedule. This allows you to build a reliable and even lawn irrigation system yourself, including on properties with elevation changes.
