9 V solenoid valves for battery operation
9 V solenoid valves enable automatic irrigation without a permanent mains connection. Combined with a compatible latching solenoid and battery-powered controller, they are ideal for valve boxes, remote garden areas and flexible irrigation systems.

9 V solenoid valves without mains power
9 V solenoid valves are a practical solution for automatic irrigation systems where a permanent mains power connection is not available. Combined with a compatible battery-powered irrigation controller, they can automatically open and close individual irrigation zones.
This makes 9 V valves particularly useful for retrofit irrigation systems, remote garden areas and valve boxes where no mains power has been installed. Automatic garden irrigation can therefore be added without installing a conventional mains-powered controller nearby.
9 V latching solenoids for battery operation
Battery-powered irrigation controllers commonly use bistable 9 V latching solenoids. A short electrical pulse changes the position of the valve. The solenoid does not require continuous power to maintain that position.
This operating principle allows efficient use of battery power. Compatibility is essential, however, as not every valve or 9 V latching solenoid works with every battery-powered controller. Always check the specifications provided by the manufacturer.
Control irrigation from the valve box
Depending on the model, a battery-powered controller can be installed directly inside or close to the valve box. This keeps the wiring between the controller and solenoid valves short and allows one or more irrigation zones to be programmed independently.
Individual zones can supply pop-up rotors, pop-up sprays, dripline or micro irrigation. Select each valve according to the required flow rate, operating pressure and connection size. Drip and micro irrigation may also require suitable filtration and pressure regulation.
Install 9 V solenoid valves correctly
Solenoid valves can be connected to PE pipework using suitable valve fittings and are commonly protected inside an accessible valve box. Follow the specified flow direction and make sure the valves and controller are suitable for the intended installation location.
A conventional 24 V solenoid valve cannot automatically be operated by a 9 V battery controller. Compatible valve ranges may allow the use of a suitable 9 V latching solenoid. With the correct combination, you can build an automatic irrigation system without a permanent mains connection.
