Rain Bird 150-PGA-9V for battery-operated irrigation systems
The Rain Bird 150-PGA-9V combines the heavy-duty design of the professional PGA Series with a latching solenoid for compatible battery-operated irrigation controllers. With 1½-inch BSP female connections, adjustable flow control and a flow range of 0.45 to 34.05 m³/h, it is designed for larger automatic irrigation zones where conventional 24 VAC control is unavailable.
Typical applications include larger gardens, commercial landscapes, parks and sprinkler systems using multiple gear-driven rotors. Its combination of large connections, high flow capacity and battery-compatible control makes it particularly useful for remote valve stations.
Latching solenoid for battery-powered control
Unlike the conventional 24 VAC version, the 150-PGA-9V uses a latching solenoid designed for compatible battery-operated irrigation controllers. Only a short electrical pulse is required to change the valve state, making this technology particularly suitable for low-power control systems.
The irrigation controller must specifically support the installed latching solenoid. A conventional 24 VAC controller output should not be used to operate this version.
1½-inch BSP female connections
The European 150-PGA-9V features 1½-inch BSP female connections on both the inlet and outlet. This makes it suitable for larger irrigation manifolds and appropriately sized distribution pipework.
The larger connection is particularly useful in irrigation zones carrying substantial water volumes. Pipe sizing should always be based on actual flow, pipe length and available dynamic pressure.
Flow capacity up to 34.05 m³/h
Without the optional PRS-D module, the PGA platform covers a flow range of 0.45 to 34.05 m³/h, equivalent to approximately 7.8 to 568 l/min.
Actual available flow depends on the water supply, dynamic pressure, pipe diameter and the combined flow requirements of all sprinklers operating within the zone.
Integrated flow control
The PGA Series features adjustable flow control. The non-rising handle allows water flow to be restricted directly at the valve, helping to hydraulically balance individual irrigation zones.
Flow control does not provide automatic downstream pressure regulation. These are two different hydraulic functions.
Optional PRS-D pressure regulation
The PGA Series can be combined with the separately available Rain Bird PRS-D pressure-regulating module. This allows downstream pressure to be adjusted to suit the requirements of the connected sprinklers.
With PRS-D installed, the specified flow range is 1.14 to 34.05 m³/h.
Heavy-duty PGA construction
The PGA Series is designed for demanding irrigation installations. Its robust valve construction and reinforced diaphragm provide reliable operation in larger residential and professional irrigation systems.
Filtered pilot flow helps protect the control passages against debris, while controlled closing helps reduce water hammer and resulting stress on pipes and fittings.
Flexible installation
The PGA design offers globe and angle configurations, providing additional flexibility when designing irrigation manifolds. The valve is normally installed in a suitably sized underground valve box.
Enough space should be provided around the valve for the 1½-inch fittings, solenoid, flow-control adjustment and future maintenance.
150-PGA-9V compared with 100-PGA-9V
Both models use the PGA valve platform, offer adjustable flow control and can be combined with the optional PRS-D pressure-regulating module.
The primary difference is connection size. The 100-PGA-9V uses 1-inch female connections, while the 150-PGA-9V uses larger 1½-inch female connections and has a larger valve body.

Installation and accessories
Which fittings are required?
The 150-PGA-9V uses 1½-inch BSP female connections. Suitable 1½-inch male threaded fittings or removable unions are therefore required for installation.
Which irrigation controller is required?
A controller designed to operate the compatible latching solenoid is required. This allows the valve to be used in battery-operated irrigation systems without a conventional 24 VAC controller at the valve location.
Can the PRS-D module be installed?
Yes. The separately available Rain Bird PRS-D module can be added when adjustable downstream pressure regulation is required.
Frequently asked questions about the Rain Bird 150-PGA-9V
Does the 150-PGA-9V require mains power?
When combined with a compatible battery-operated irrigation controller, conventional mains power is not required at the valve station.
What is the difference between the 150-PGA-9V and 150-PGA-24V?
The primary difference is the electrical control system. The 24V version uses a conventional 24 VAC solenoid, while the 9V version uses a latching solenoid for compatible battery-operated controllers.
Does the valve include flow control?
Yes. Adjustable flow control is one of the standard features of the PGA Series.
Does flow control regulate water pressure?
No. Flow control restricts water flow. For adjustable downstream pressure regulation, the optional Rain Bird PRS-D module can be used.
What is the difference between the 100-PGA-9V and 150-PGA-9V?
The main difference is the connection size. The 100-PGA-9V uses 1-inch female connections, while the 150-PGA-9V uses larger 1½-inch female connections.
Where is the 150-PGA-9V particularly useful?
It is particularly suitable for larger irrigation zones and remote valve stations where 1½-inch pipework is used and a conventional electrical supply is unavailable.
