16 mm PE pipes for irrigation
PE pipes with a 16 mm diameter are particularly suitable for smaller irrigation areas and systems with moderate water requirements. Their small diameter makes them flexible to install throughout the garden, where they can be used to supply drip irrigation, micro irrigation and smaller planted areas.
16 mm PE pipes can be used as distribution lines within a larger irrigation system or for compact independent installations. Whether this diameter is suitable depends on the required water flow, pipe length, available water pressure and the drippers or micro sprinklers connected to the pipe.
16 mm PE pipes for drip irrigation
In drip irrigation systems, a 16 mm pipe can distribute water along beds, hedges, raised beds and rows of plants. Depending on the system, individual drippers can be connected directly or supplied through additional micro tubing. This allows you to adapt water delivery to the position of individual plants.
Even with smaller irrigation systems, the available water flow and pipe length should be considered. A large number of drippers operating simultaneously increases the total flow requirement. For longer distances or higher water demand, a larger main supply pipe can be used before branching into individual 16 mm distribution lines.
Connect and install 16 mm PE pipes
Suitable connectors, elbows, tees and other fittings are available for 16 mm irrigation pipes. They allow you to extend pipes, create branches and adapt the irrigation layout to beds and planted areas. Make sure the pipe and fittings are compatible in terms of outside diameter and connection system.
Cut the pipe cleanly and as squarely as possible using a suitable pipe cutter. The pipe sections can then be connected with the appropriate fittings, while end fittings close unused pipe ends. Once installation is complete, turn on the irrigation system and check all connections carefully for leaks.
Micro irrigation with 16 mm PE pipe
16 mm PE pipe can also be used as a supply line for micro irrigation. Suitable connectors allow micro tubing to branch from the pipe and supply individual drippers, micro sprinklers or micro nozzles at different locations. This makes it easy to create a customised irrigation system for individual plants.
Depending on the system, drip and micro irrigation may also require suitable filters and pressure regulators. Filters help protect small water passages from contamination, while pressure regulators adapt the operating pressure to the installed components. With 16 mm PE pipe and compatible fittings, you can build your own plant irrigation system.
