Dripline for targeted garden irrigation
Dripline is ideal for regularly watering garden beds, hedges, shrubs and long rows of plants. Integrated emitters positioned at fixed intervals release water along the pipe. This delivers water directly to the planted area instead of distributing it over large areas where it may not be needed.
Drip irrigation is particularly suitable for areas where many plants grow along a row or within a garden bed. You can lay the dripline according to the shape of the planted area and connect it to your irrigation pipework with suitable fittings. This creates a convenient watering system that can also be expanded later.
Dripline for beds and hedges
For hedges, dripline can be installed along the row to provide the individual plants with a regular supply of water. Depending on the width of the planted area and its watering requirements, more than one line may be useful. In vegetable and flower beds, dripline can be installed in rows or loops to suit the layout.
The spacing between individual lines depends on the plants, soil conditions and the selected dripline. More permeable soils may require closer spacing, while water can spread further sideways in other soil types. This allows you to adapt your drip irrigation layout to the conditions in your garden.
Choose emitter spacing and flow rate
Driplines are available with different pipe diameters, emitter spacings and emitter flow rates. Closer emitter spacing provides more frequent watering points along the pipe and can be useful for densely planted areas. Wider spacing may be suitable where individual plants are positioned further apart.
Also consider the specified operating pressure and maximum recommended line length. Depending on the product, pressure compensating emitters can provide more consistent flow along longer lines and across certain elevation changes. Suitable filters and pressure regulators help provide the correct operating conditions for your drip irrigation system.
Install your own drip irrigation system
Dripline can be adapted to your garden using suitable connectors, elbows, tees and end closures. Cut the pipe cleanly to the required length and connect the individual sections with compatible fittings. Stakes or fixing accessories can then be used to keep the dripline in the required position.
Solenoid valves and an irrigation controller allow you to automate your drip irrigation system. Filters help protect the small water passages from contaminants, while a suitable pressure regulator provides the required operating pressure depending on the system. This makes it easy to build reliable irrigation for beds, hedges and other planted areas yourself.
