Solenoid valves for irrigation systems
Solenoid valves perform a central function in your automatic irrigation system. They open and close the water supply to individual irrigation zones. This allows you to operate your lawn irrigation, drip irrigation and micro irrigation separately and water each area for exactly as long as your plants need.
Installation is easier than it may initially seem. You install the solenoid valves in the designated irrigation zones and connect them to your irrigation controller. Several valves can be neatly installed together in a valve box, keeping them organised and easily accessible. This allows you to build your own automatic garden irrigation system and expand it at any time later.
Solenoids for 24 V and 9 V control
The solenoid allows your valve to be electrically operated. Permanently installed irrigation systems commonly use 24 V solenoids controlled by a compatible irrigation controller. For battery-powered systems, compatible latching solenoids are available depending on the valve, making them suitable for irrigation controllers without a permanent mains power supply.
When choosing a solenoid, make sure that the solenoid, valve and irrigation controller are compatible with each other. This is particularly important when upgrading an existing system or replacing individual components. With the right combination, you can reliably connect your solenoid valves to both conventional irrigation controllers and battery-powered irrigation controllers.
Control cables for solenoid valves
The control cable transmits the electrical signal from the irrigation controller to your solenoid valves. In a system with multiple irrigation zones, the required cables are routed from the controller to the valves. This allows your irrigation controller to activate each zone individually and, for example, water different lawn areas, garden beds or hedges one after another.
With the right planning, you can also prepare the wiring yourself. Make sure you use a control cable suitable for the intended application and reliable cable connections. If you plan to add more solenoid valves later, it is worth considering additional irrigation zones when planning your controller and wiring.
Valve fittings for secure connections
With suitable valve fittings, you can connect your solenoid valves to the pipes of your irrigation system. Different connection options are available depending on the valve, thread size and pipe system. Practical valve fittings not only make initial installation easier but also simplify the later removal or replacement of a solenoid valve.
Plan your valve box so that the solenoid valves and connections remain easily accessible. With suitable irrigation pipes, compression fittings and valve fittings, you can install the individual irrigation zones neatly and securely. All you then need is an irrigation controller, control cables and, if required, sensors to conveniently automate your garden irrigation system.
