Rain Bird 100-DVF with adjustable flow control
The Rain Bird 100-DVF is a high-capacity 24 VAC solenoid valve for automatic lawn and garden irrigation systems. With a flow range of 0.05 to 9.08 m³/h and 1-inch female threaded connections, it is suitable for both smaller irrigation zones and higher-flow circuits using multiple pop-up sprinklers or gear-driven rotors.
The key feature of the 100-DVF is its integrated flow-control mechanism. Unlike the standard 100-DV, the DVF allows the maximum water flow to be adjusted directly at the valve, providing additional flexibility when balancing different irrigation zones.
Adjustable flow control
The F in DVF indicates Flow Control. Rain Bird uses a pressure-assisted adjustment mechanism that allows the water flow through the valve to be restricted as required.
This is particularly useful when individual irrigation zones have different flow requirements or when several zones need to be hydraulically balanced during system commissioning.
Flow capacity up to 9.08 m³/h
The 100-DVF operates across a broad flow range of approximately 0.05 to 9.08 m³/h, equivalent to approximately 0.8 to 151 l/min. This makes it suitable for a wide variety of residential and light commercial irrigation applications.
The actual available flow also depends on the water supply, dynamic pressure, pipe diameter, pipe length and combined flow requirements of the sprinklers operating within the zone.
24 VAC automatic control
The standard 100-DVF uses a 24 VAC solenoid and is designed for conventional wired irrigation controllers. When the corresponding controller station is activated, the valve opens automatically and supplies water to the irrigation zone.
When the programmed watering period ends, the normally closed valve shuts off the water supply again. Multiple valves can therefore be used to control separate irrigation zones independently.
Proven DV Series construction
The 100-DVF combines the proven design of the DV Series with adjustable flow control. Its balanced-pressure Buna-N diaphragm incorporates a self-cleaning pilot water filter for reliable operation.
The eccentric diaphragm design provides smoother closing and helps reduce water hammer. A double-filtered pilot-flow design also improves resistance to small particles and debris.
Operating pressure from 1.0 to 10.4 bar
Rain Bird specifies an operating pressure range of approximately 1.0 to 10.4 bar. This makes the valve suitable for a wide variety of automatic irrigation installations.
The integrated flow-control mechanism is not a pressure regulator. If downstream sprinklers, nozzles or drip components require a specific reduced operating pressure, a suitable separate pressure regulator must be used.
Suitable for low-flow irrigation
The broad operating range also allows the 100-DVF to be used for low-flow irrigation zones. For flow rates below 0.68 m³/h or any Landscape Drip application, Rain Bird specifies a 200-mesh filter installed upstream of the valve.
1-inch BSP female connections
The international I100-DVF version features 1-inch BSP female threaded connections on both the inlet and outlet. Suitable male threaded fittings or removable unions can therefore be used to integrate the valve into an irrigation manifold.
Removable unions are particularly useful because they simplify future servicing or replacement of the valve.
Manual operation and flushing
The 100-DVF can be operated manually directly at the valve. Internal bleed provides spray-free manual operation, making it easy to test an irrigation zone during commissioning or maintenance.
External bleed can also be used to flush dirt and debris from the system during installation and start-up.
Installation in a valve box
The valve is normally installed in an underground irrigation valve box. Several valves can be combined to form a central manifold, with each valve controlling an individual irrigation zone.
The pipework should be thoroughly flushed before installation and the flow direction marked on the valve body must be observed. Waterproof wire connectors are recommended for the electrical connections.
100-DV compared with 100-DVF
Both models share the same basic pressure and flow range. The main difference is adjustable flow control.
The 100-DV opens and closes the irrigation zone without separate flow adjustment. The 100-DVF adds a flow-control mechanism, allowing the maximum flow to be adjusted directly at the valve.

Frequently asked questions about the Rain Bird 100-DVF
What does the F in 100-DVF mean?
The F indicates Flow Control. Unlike the standard 100-DV, the 100-DVF allows the maximum water flow to be adjusted directly at the valve.
What is the flow range of the 100-DVF?
Rain Bird specifies approximately 0.05 to 9.08 m³/h, equivalent to a maximum of approximately 151 l/min.
Does flow control regulate water pressure?
No. Flow control restricts water flow but does not maintain a defined downstream pressure. A separate pressure regulator is required when a specific operating pressure is needed.
Can the 100-DVF be used for drip irrigation?
Yes. For Landscape Drip applications and flow rates below 0.68 m³/h, Rain Bird specifies an upstream 200-mesh filter. A separate pressure regulator may also be required depending on the drip system.
What is the difference between the 100-DV and 100-DVF?
The 100-DVF adds adjustable flow control. The standard 100-DV does not provide this adjustment.
Can the valve be operated manually?
Yes. Internal manual bleed allows the irrigation zone to be operated directly at the valve for commissioning, testing or maintenance.
