Rain Bird 100-DV-MM-9V for battery-operated irrigation

The Rain Bird 100-DV-MM-9V is a high-capacity irrigation valve designed for automatic watering systems where a conventional mains-powered controller is not available. Its 9 VDC latching solenoid allows the valve to be operated by compatible battery-powered irrigation controllers.

9 VDC latching solenoid

The key feature of the 100-DV-MM-9V is its latching solenoid. Unlike the standard 24 VAC 100-DV-MM, this version is designed specifically for compatible battery-operated irrigation controllers.

A latching solenoid requires only a short electrical pulse to change its operating state. This significantly reduces power consumption and makes the technology particularly suitable for battery-powered irrigation systems.

Ideal where mains power is unavailable

The 9V version is particularly useful when the irrigation valve box is located far away from a building or electrical supply. Combined with a compatible battery controller, automatic irrigation can be installed without providing mains power at the controller location.

1-inch male x male connections

MM stands for Male x Male. The valve therefore features a 1-inch male threaded connection on both the inlet and outlet.

Suitable female threaded fittings or removable unions can be connected directly to the valve. Removable unions are particularly useful because they simplify future servicing and replacement.

Flow capacity up to 9.08 m³/h

The actual available flow depends on the water supply, dynamic pressure, pipe diameter, pipe length and combined flow requirements of the sprinklers operating within the zone.

Operating pressure up to 10.4 bar

The DV Series operates across a pressure range of approximately 1.0 to 10.4 bar. The operating pressure required by downstream sprinklers, nozzles or drip components must still be considered separately.

Proven DV Series construction

The valve uses Rain Bird's proven DV Series diaphragm design. A double-filtered pilot-flow system and balanced-pressure Buna-N diaphragm provide reliable operation and improved resistance to small particles and debris.

The eccentric diaphragm design provides controlled closing and helps reduce water hammer within the irrigation system.

Low-flow and drip irrigation

The valve can also be used for low-flow and landscape drip applications. For flow rates below 0.68 m³/h or any Landscape Drip application, Rain Bird specifies a 200-mesh filter installed upstream of the valve.

A separate pressure regulator may also be required depending on the operating pressure specified for the drip irrigation components.

Installation

The 100-DV-MM-9V is normally installed in an irrigation valve box. The pipework should be thoroughly flushed before installation and the flow direction marked on the valve body must be observed.

Suitable 1-inch female threaded unions can be connected directly to the male threads. Removable connections simplify future maintenance and valve replacement.

100-DV-MM compared with 100-DV-MM-9V

Both valves use the same basic DV Series hydraulic design. The key difference is the solenoid and controller type.
