Outdoor irrigation controllers
An outdoor irrigation controller allows you to automate your garden watering conveniently. The controller manages the watering times for individual irrigation zones and operates connected solenoid valves automatically. This allows lawns, beds, hedges and drip irrigation areas to be watered independently.
Outdoor controllers have an enclosure designed for their intended installation environment, depending on the model. They can therefore be installed on a suitable exterior wall or another location specified by the manufacturer. Always check the protection rating and installation requirements of the selected controller.
Control multiple irrigation zones
The number of stations determines how many irrigation zones a controller can operate independently. One zone might supply pop-up sprinklers in the front garden, while other zones can be used for the rear lawn, dripline in garden beds or irrigation along a hedge.
Choose the number of stations according to the size and layout of your irrigation system. Some controllers can be expanded with additional station modules. If you are planning your own system, leaving some spare capacity can make it easier to add new irrigation zones later.
Add sensors and WiFi functions
Depending on the model, modern outdoor controllers can be combined with rain sensors, soil moisture sensors or other compatible sensors. These can help adapt automatic watering to actual conditions in the garden. The available sensor functions depend on the selected controller and system.
Compatible controllers may also support an optional WiFi module or include network connectivity. Depending on the system, this allows you to manage watering schedules using a smartphone, tablet or computer. Check which smart functions are included and which accessories need to be purchased separately.
Install an outdoor controller
Together with solenoid valves, control cables and sensors, the controller forms the central control system for automatic garden irrigation. In conventional 24 V systems, the solenoid valves are connected to the controller with suitable multi-core control cable. Electrical installation must follow the manufacturer's instructions and applicable requirements.
Start by planning your irrigation zones and then choose a controller with a suitable number of stations. With solenoid valves, control cables, cable connectors and compatible accessories, you can create an organised automatic irrigation system that can later be expanded with additional zones, sensors or smart functions.
