Wi-Fi module and sensors for this irrigation controller:
Automatic irrigation control for six zones
The Rain Bird ESP-TM2-6-230V is a reliable irrigation controller designed to operate up to six independent watering zones. Its protective enclosure allows indoor or outdoor installation and makes the controller particularly suitable for automatic residential garden irrigation systems.
Six stations provide plenty of flexibility when dividing a garden into separate irrigation circuits. A front garden, several lawn areas, flower beds, hedges and drip irrigation can each be controlled through separate valves and programmed according to their individual watering requirements.
The ESP-TM2 operates fully automatically without Wi-Fi or internet access. If smartphone and remote control are required later, the controller can be upgraded with the separately available Rain Bird LNK2 WiFi module.
Suitable for outdoor installation
The ESP-TM2-6-230V features a protective plastic enclosure with a door and can be installed indoors or outdoors. Rain Bird specifies an IP24 protection rating for the 230V models.
The enclosure measures approximately 20.1 cm wide, 20.0 cm high and 9.0 cm deep, providing a compact wall-mounted solution for a six-zone irrigation system.
The TM2I6-230V, by comparison, is the smaller indoor-only version and is intended exclusively for protected indoor locations.
Simple programming directly at the controller
The ESP-TM2 is designed for straightforward everyday operation. Its backlit display, central dial and clearly arranged buttons make irrigation programming easy.
Watering days, start times and station run times are configured directly at the controller. Once programmed, the ESP-TM2 automatically operates the irrigation system without requiring Wi-Fi, a smartphone or an internet connection.
Individual stations and programs can also be started manually, making system testing, sprinkler adjustment and maintenance easier.
Six independent irrigation circuits
The six stations allow up to six separate irrigation circuits to be controlled. Each station normally operates one 24V AC irrigation valve that controls the water supply to its corresponding garden area.
A station is not limited to a single sprinkler. Multiple pop-up rotors, spray heads or other irrigation components can operate downstream of one valve.
The number of sprinklers that can operate within a zone depends on the available water pressure, flow and combined water demand of the connected sprinklers.
Three independent watering programs
The ESP-TM2 provides three independent programs, A, B and C, with up to four start times available for each program.
This allows different irrigation schedules to be created for lawn areas, planting zones and drip irrigation systems with different watering requirements.
Multiple start times can also be used when the required amount of water should be divided into several shorter watering cycles.
Flexible watering schedules
Watering can be scheduled using selected weekdays, odd or even calendar days or cyclic irrigation intervals.
Permanent no-water days can be defined, while irrigation can also be suspended for up to 14 days. The controller automatically resumes normal operation afterwards without requiring the original programs to be recreated.
Seasonal irrigation adjustment
Seasonal adjustment allows watering duration to be adapted as weather and seasonal conditions change without manually reprogramming every individual station.
Existing schedules remain stored while watering duration can be reduced during cooler periods or increased when additional irrigation is required.
Designed for 24V AC irrigation valves
The ESP-TM2-6-230V is designed to operate conventional 24V AC irrigation valves commonly used in permanently installed garden irrigation systems.
In a typical installation, one control wire from each valve connects to its corresponding station terminal while the second valve wires share the common connection to the controller's COM terminal.
Suitable examples include appropriate 24V versions of Rain Bird HV, DV, DVF, PGA and PEB valves. Battery-operated 9V DC latching solenoids cannot be connected directly.
230V power supply and 24V valve control
The 230V designation refers to the controller's mains power supply. The irrigation valves themselves are controlled using 24V AC.
The controller also supports a master valve or pump-start circuit, making it suitable for irrigation systems that use a central master valve or irrigation pump.
Rain sensor integration
A compatible rain sensor can be connected directly to the ESP-TM2, allowing automatic irrigation to be suspended when natural rainfall makes watering unnecessary.
Sensor bypass can be configured for individual zones. This allows selected irrigation circuits to continue operating even when other areas are suspended by the rain sensor.
Master valve and pump-start support
In addition to the six irrigation stations, the ESP-TM2 supports a master valve or pump-start circuit. Master valve operation can be enabled or disabled by station.
An irrigation pump is not powered directly from the controller's valve output. A suitable external pump-start relay or pump control system is required.
Upgrade to Wi-Fi with the LNK2
The ESP-TM2-6-230V does not include built-in Wi-Fi but is designed for an optional Wi-Fi upgrade using the separately available Rain Bird LNK2 WiFi module.
The module plugs directly into the dedicated accessory port, allowing smartphone and network functionality to be added without replacing the complete irrigation controller.
Smartphone and remote irrigation control
With the LNK2 WiFi module installed, supported irrigation functions can be managed from a compatible smartphone. With an active internet connection, the controller can also be accessed remotely.
This makes it possible to check settings, change irrigation schedules or manually operate individual zones without standing directly in front of the controller.
The LNK2 requires a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. A network operating exclusively at 5 GHz is not supported.
Reliable irrigation even without Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is not required to run the programmed irrigation schedules. The schedules are stored locally in the ESP-TM2 and executed directly by the controller.
If Wi-Fi or internet access is temporarily unavailable, normal automatic irrigation continues. Only remote and internet-dependent functions are unavailable until the connection is restored.
Fixed six-station capacity
The ESP-TM2-6-230V provides six fixed station outputs and cannot be expanded by adding additional station modules.
If more than six irrigation circuits may be required in the future, an 8- or 12-station ESP-TM2 should be selected from the beginning. For systems requiring modular expansion, Rain Bird offers controllers such as the ESP-ME3.
