Rain Bird 100-PGA professional 24V irrigation valve
The Rain Bird 100-PGA is a heavy-duty 24 VAC irrigation valve designed for demanding automatic irrigation systems. With 1-inch female BSP connections, adjustable flow control and a flow range of 0.45 to 34.05 m³/h, it is suitable for residential, commercial and professional sprinkler installations.
The PGA Series is designed for applications where high flow capacity, durability and reliable long-term operation are important. It is particularly suitable for larger sprinkler zones, gear-driven rotors and other irrigation circuits with substantial water demand.
Flow capacity up to 34.05 m³/h
Without the optional PRS-D pressure-regulating module, Rain Bird specifies a flow range of 0.45 to 34.05 m³/h, equivalent to approximately 7.8 to 568 l/min.
The actual usable flow depends on available dynamic pressure, pipe diameter, pipe length and the combined water requirements of the sprinklers operating within the irrigation zone.
Adjustable flow control
The 100-PGA features an integrated non-rising flow-control handle. This allows the water flow to be restricted directly at the valve and makes it easier to hydraulically balance individual irrigation zones.
Flow control should not be confused with pressure regulation. If a defined downstream pressure is required, the PGA Series can be equipped with the optional Rain Bird PRS-D pressure-regulating module.
Optional PRS-D pressure regulation
The field-installed PRS-D module is one of the major advantages of the PGA Series. It allows downstream pressure to be regulated directly at the valve and can be added when the irrigation design requires controlled operating pressure.
With PRS-D installed, Rain Bird specifies a flow range of 1.14 to 34.05 m³/h.
24 VAC automatic control
This version of the 100-PGA uses a 24 VAC solenoid for conventional wired irrigation controllers. The normally closed valve opens when the corresponding controller station is activated and closes automatically when irrigation ends.
Heavy-duty construction
The PGA Series uses a durable PVC and glass-reinforced nylon construction with a reinforced rubber diaphragm. Filtered pilot flow helps resist debris and clogging of the solenoid ports.
The valve is designed to close slowly, helping reduce water hammer and the resulting stress on pipes, fittings and other irrigation components.
Globe and angle configuration
The PGA Series offers globe and angle configurations for additional installation flexibility. This makes the valve easier to integrate into different manifold layouts and pipe arrangements.
The European I-100-PGA version uses 1-inch BSP female threaded connections and is normally installed in a suitably sized irrigation valve box.
Manual operation and servicing
Internal manual bleed allows the valve to be operated without discharging water into the valve box. External bleed can be used to flush dirt and debris from the system during commissioning or after repairs.
100-PGA compared with 100-DVF
Both valves provide adjustable flow control, but the PGA Series is designed for more demanding professional irrigation applications and offers substantially higher maximum flow capacity.
The PGA Series can also accept the optional PRS-D pressure-regulating module, providing additional flexibility when designing larger or more hydraulically demanding irrigation systems.

Installation and accessories
Which fittings are required?
The European I-100-PGA uses 1-inch BSP female threads. Suitable fittings or removable unions with 1-inch male threads are therefore required for installation.
Can pressure regulation be added?
Yes. The optional Rain Bird PRS-D module can be installed on the PGA valve to provide adjustable downstream pressure regulation.
Is a valve box recommended?
Yes. A suitably sized valve box protects the valve and electrical connections while maintaining access to the flow-control handle, solenoid and optional PRS-D module.
Frequently asked questions about the Rain Bird 100-PGA
What is the flow range of the 100-PGA?
Rain Bird specifies 0.45 to 34.05 m³/h without the optional PRS-D module, equivalent to approximately 7.8 to 568 l/min.
Does the 100-PGA have adjustable flow control?
Yes. Adjustable flow control is standard and allows the water flow to be restricted directly at the valve.
Does the valve regulate pressure?
Not as standard. The optional Rain Bird PRS-D module can be added when regulated downstream pressure is required.
What is the difference between flow control and PRS-D?
Flow control restricts the amount of water passing through the valve. PRS-D regulates downstream pressure to an adjusted value. They therefore perform different functions.
Can the 100-PGA be used with large sprinklers?
Yes. Its high flow capacity and robust construction make it suitable for demanding sprinkler zones, provided the pipework, available pressure and water supply are correctly sized.
Is a battery-operated version available?
Yes. Rain Bird also offers a PGA version with a latching solenoid for compatible battery-operated irrigation controllers.
What is the difference between 100-PGA and 100-PGA-9V?
The standard 100-PGA uses a 24 VAC solenoid for wired irrigation controllers. The 100-PGA-9V uses a latching solenoid designed for compatible battery-operated controllers.
