Rain Bird LFV-075-9V battery-operated low-flow irrigation valve
The Rain Bird LFV-075-9V is a specialised irrigation valve designed for low-flow drip and micro-irrigation systems. Its 9V latching solenoid makes it particularly suitable for battery-operated irrigation controllers and locations where conventional 24 VAC control wiring is unavailable.
With ¾-inch female connections and a low flow range of approximately 0.6 to 30 l/min, the LFV-075-9V is ideal for dripline, individual emitters and small micro-irrigation zones.
9V latching solenoid for battery control
The LFV-075-9V uses a 9V latching solenoid. Unlike a conventional 24 VAC solenoid, it only requires a short electrical pulse to change valve position, making it highly suitable for low-power battery-operated irrigation controllers.
This allows automatic irrigation to be installed in remote valve boxes without conventional mains-powered control wiring.
Designed specifically for low flow rates
The LFV Series was developed specifically for the low flow rates found in drip and micro irrigation. This allows even small drip zones to be controlled reliably as independent irrigation stations.
Typical applications include flower beds, hedges, raised beds, planting rows, greenhouses and smaller garden areas supplied by dripline or individual emitters.
Unique double-knife diaphragm
The LFV uses a unique double-knife diaphragm combined with a ½-inch diameter valve seat. This design provides reliable operation at very low flow rates and allows small particles to pass through the valve.
This helps reduce the risk of debris preventing the valve from closing completely when only small amounts of water are flowing.
Double-filtered pilot flow
The valve features a double-filtered pilot-flow design to protect its control passages and improve reliability in low-flow applications.
This internal filtration primarily protects the valve itself. Suitable system filtration is still recommended to protect dripline and emitters against clogging.
Filter can be installed downstream
A particular advantage of the LFV design is that the system filter can be safely installed downstream of the valve. Its special diaphragm is designed to allow particles to pass through even at very low flow rates.
This makes the valve particularly suitable for compact drip irrigation control zones combining the valve with downstream filtration and pressure regulation.
Operating pressure from 1.0 to 10.3 bar
The LFV Series operates between 1.0 and 10.3 bar. However, this should not be confused with the required operating pressure of the connected dripline or emitters.
Many drip irrigation components require substantially lower pressure. A suitable downstream pressure regulator should therefore be installed when required by the irrigation components.

Installation and accessories
Which controller is required?
A compatible irrigation controller designed for 9V latching solenoids is required. The valve is particularly suitable for battery-operated control systems and must not be connected to a conventional 24 VAC controller output.
Do I need a filter?
Suitable filtration is recommended for drip and micro irrigation. The LFV's internal filtration protects the valve's pilot system, while a separate system filter protects dripline and emitters against clogging.
Do I need a pressure regulator?
This depends on the operating pressure required by the dripline or emitters. When lower pressure is required, a suitable pressure regulator should be installed downstream of the valve.
Frequently asked questions about the Rain Bird LFV-075-9V
Does the LFV-075-9V require mains power?
No conventional mains supply is required at the valve box when the valve is operated by a compatible battery-powered irrigation controller.
Is the LFV-075-9V suitable for dripline?
Yes. The LFV Series was specifically developed for low-flow drip and micro-irrigation applications.
What is the difference between the LFV-075-9V and LFV-075-24V?
The hydraulic low-flow design is essentially the same. The key difference is control: the 9V version uses a latching solenoid for compatible battery-operated controllers, while the 24V version uses a conventional 24 VAC solenoid.
Does the LFV-075-9V include flow control?
No. The valve does not include adjustable flow control.
Does it include pressure regulation?
No. Pressure regulation is not integrated into the individual valve. A suitable downstream pressure regulator can be added when required.
Why can the filter be installed after the valve?
The LFV's special diaphragm design allows particles to pass through the valve even at very low flow rates. This allows the system filter protecting the drip irrigation components to be positioned downstream.
