Filters for drip and micro irrigation
Filters remove dirt and particles from irrigation water, helping to protect the small water passages in drippers, driplines and micro sprinklers. Suitable filtration is particularly important in drip and micro irrigation because small outlets can be more sensitive to contamination.
The right filter depends on the water source and the irrigation components being used. Filtration can be especially important with rainwater or well water. Consider the connection size, flow capacity and filtration level and clean the filter element regularly.
Pressure regulators for irrigation
Pressure regulators reduce higher inlet pressure to a suitable operating pressure for the irrigation components downstream. This is particularly important for driplines, individual drippers and many micro irrigation components that commonly operate at lower pressure than conventional lawn sprinklers.
A pressure regulator can reduce available water pressure but cannot increase pressure that is already too low. Choose a model that matches the required outlet pressure and flow rate of your system so the connected irrigation components operate within their intended pressure range.
Combine filters and pressure regulators
For many drip irrigation systems, combining a filter with a pressure regulator is a practical solution. The irrigation water is filtered and then supplied to the dripline or micro tubing at a suitable pressure. Some products combine both functions in a single compact unit.
Filters and pressure regulators can be installed downstream of a solenoid valve at the beginning of a drip irrigation zone. Follow the specified flow direction and make sure the thread connections, pressure range and flow capacity are suitable for your irrigation system.
Build a reliable drip irrigation system
A suitable filter and pressure regulator provide a solid foundation for drip and micro irrigation. You can then combine driplines, 16 or 17 mm fittings, micro tubing, individual drippers and micro sprinklers according to the requirements of your beds, hedges and planted areas.
Suitable threaded fittings and connectors make installation straightforward to complete yourself. After installation, check all connections for leaks and inspect the filter regularly for accumulated debris. This helps keep your irrigation system reliable and easy to maintain.
