20 mm PE pipes for irrigation
PE pipes with a 20 mm diameter are a practical solution for smaller garden irrigation systems and individual watering areas. Their relatively small diameter makes them flexible to install and particularly suitable for pipe runs that do not need to transport very high volumes of water.
Depending on the system design, 20 mm PE pipes can supply pop-up rotors, pop-up sprays, drip irrigation or micro irrigation. Whether this diameter is suitable for your irrigation zone mainly depends on the required water flow, pipe length, available water pressure and the connected irrigation components.
20 mm PE pipes for smaller areas
For smaller lawns, beds and other compact garden areas, a 20 mm PE pipe can be a suitable choice. It is particularly useful for shorter pipe runs with low to moderate water flow requirements, allowing you to create a compact and straightforward irrigation system.
When planning your system, consider the combined water requirement of all sprinklers or drippers operating at the same time. If several high flow sprinklers are connected or water needs to travel over longer distances, larger pipe diameters such as 25 or 32 mm may help reduce pressure losses.
Connect and install 20 mm PE pipes
Suitable compression fittings and push fittings are available for 20 mm PE pipes. Straight connectors extend the pipe, elbows allow changes in direction and tees create branches. Compatible threaded fittings can also be used to connect other components within your irrigation system.
Cut the PE pipe cleanly and as squarely as possible using a suitable pipe cutter. The pipe sections can then be joined with the appropriate fittings. Make sure the fittings match the outside diameter of the pipe and follow the manufacturer's installation instructions. After assembly, test the completed pipework for leaks under operating pressure.
Use 20 mm PE pipes flexibly
A 20 mm PE pipe can also be used as a smaller distribution line branching from a larger main pipe. This allows you to supply individual garden areas without using the same large pipe diameter throughout the entire irrigation system, creating a practical layout based on the water requirements of each area.
With suitable fittings, 20 mm PE pipe can be combined with pop-up sprinklers, sprays and components for drip and micro irrigation. Plan the required flow rate and pipe length carefully, and you can install your own garden irrigation system using PE pipes and compatible connections.
