The Rain Bird ESP-ME3-230V is a highly flexible irrigation controller designed for residential and light commercial irrigation systems. The base configuration provides four irrigation stations and can be expanded with additional station modules to control up to 22 zones.

This modular design makes the ESP-ME3 particularly suitable for irrigation systems that may grow over time. You can start with four irrigation circuits and add further zones later without replacing the complete controller.

Expandable from 4 to 22 zones

Modular expansion is one of the main advantages of the ESP-ME3. Compatible station modules can be added to increase the total capacity to a maximum of 22 stations.

Lawns, planting areas, hedges and drip irrigation can therefore be divided into separate irrigation circuits and controlled according to their individual watering requirements.

Wi-Fi upgrade with LNK2

The ESP-ME3 does not have built-in Wi-Fi. Wireless connectivity can be added using the separately available Rain Bird LNK2 WiFi Module, which plugs directly into the dedicated accessory port.

The LNK2 module does not require a separate power supply and connects the controller to a compatible 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.

Control with the Rain Bird 2.0 App

With the LNK2 WiFi Module installed, the ESP-ME3 can be used with the Rain Bird 2.0 App on compatible iOS and Android devices.

The app allows irrigation schedules to be managed from a smartphone, individual zones to be operated manually and supported functions to be accessed remotely when an internet connection is available. Weather-based adjustments and notifications provide additional smart irrigation capabilities.

Four independent irrigation programs

The ESP-ME3 provides four independent irrigation programs, allowing different areas of the landscape to follow separate watering schedules.

This makes the controller particularly useful for larger gardens containing lawns, planting areas and drip irrigation systems with different watering requirements.

Easy 24V AC valve installation

The ESP-ME3 controls conventional 24V AC irrigation valves. One control wire from each valve is normally connected to its corresponding station terminal, while the second wire is connected to the common COM circuit.

Suitable valves include appropriate 24V versions of Rain Bird HV, DV, DVF, PGA and PEB series valves. Battery-operated 9V DC latching solenoids cannot be connected directly.

Flow monitoring capability

An important advantage of the ESP-ME3 is support for a compatible flow sensor. This allows the controller to monitor water flow through the irrigation system.

Abnormal flow conditions can help identify potential problems such as damaged pipes, malfunctioning sprinklers or valve faults, providing additional protection for larger irrigation systems.

Rain sensor compatible

A compatible rain sensor can also be connected. Rain Bird recommends accessories including the WR2 series for automatic interruption of irrigation when sufficient natural rainfall occurs.

Full operation without Wi-Fi

The ESP-ME3 can be programmed and operated directly from its control panel without Wi-Fi. The LNK2 module and smartphone app are optional upgrades rather than requirements for normal automatic irrigation.

Stored irrigation programs continue to operate if Wi-Fi or internet access is interrupted. Only remote and other internet-dependent functions become temporarily unavailable.

Master valve and pump-start support

The ESP-ME3 can also be integrated into systems using a master valve or irrigation pump. A pump requires a suitable external pump-start relay or pump control system.
