Rain Bird 100-HV valve for automatic irrigation systems

The Rain Bird 100-HV is a compact and reliable 24 VAC solenoid valve for automatic irrigation systems. With a flow range of approximately 0.05 to 6.82 m³/h and 1-inch female threaded connections, it is suitable for a wide range of residential and light commercial irrigation zones.

The valve is controlled by a compatible 24 VAC irrigation controller, allowing individual watering zones to be operated automatically. It can be used with pop-up sprinklers, rotors and, with appropriate filtration and pressure control, drip irrigation systems.

24 VAC operation for wired irrigation controllers

The 100-HV uses a standard 24 VAC, 50/60 Hz solenoid. When the irrigation controller activates the corresponding station, the solenoid opens the valve and allows water to flow into the irrigation zone.

This makes the valve suitable for permanently wired automatic irrigation systems using standard 24 VAC control technology.

Wide flow range up to 6.82 m³/h

The specified flow range is approximately 0.05 to 6.82 m³/h, or up to around 113 l/min. This allows the valve to control both relatively small and higher-flow irrigation zones.

For flow rates below 0.68 m³/h or Xerigation applications, Rain Bird specifies a 200-mesh filter installed upstream of the valve.

Operating pressure from 1.0 to 10.3 bar

The Rain Bird 100-HV operates over a broad pressure range of approximately 1.0 to 10.3 bar. The required operating pressure of sprinklers, rotors or drip components connected downstream must still be considered separately.

Smooth closing helps reduce water hammer

The HV Series uses an eccentric balanced-pressure diaphragm designed to provide smooth closing and reduce water hammer. The durable Buna-N diaphragm incorporates a self-cleaning 90-mesh pilot water filter and stainless steel spring.

Manual operation and flushing

The valve can also be operated manually. Internal bleed allows spray-free manual operation, while external bleed can be used to flush dirt and debris from the system during installation and start-up.

Compact design for valve boxes

At approximately 11.7 cm high, 11.2 cm long and 7.9 cm wide, the 100-HV is compact enough for space-efficient installation in irrigation valve boxes.

Multiple valves can be installed together to create a manifold, with each valve controlling a separate irrigation zone.

Installation with 1-inch female BSP threads

The European I100-HV-BSP version uses 1-inch BSP female threads on both the inlet and outlet. Suitable 1-inch male threaded unions make installation and future valve replacement easier.

The flow direction marked on the valve body must be observed during installation. The irrigation pipework should also be thoroughly flushed before the valve is installed.

Difference between 100-HV and 100-HVF

The 100-HV is the standard version without adjustable flow control. The 100-HVF adds an integrated flow-control mechanism that allows the maximum flow through the valve to be adjusted manually.

If you simply need reliable automatic opening and closing of an irrigation zone, the 100-HV is the straightforward option. If you also want to regulate flow directly at the valve, the 100-HVF is the more suitable version.

Installation, accessories and frequently asked questions

Which fittings are required?

The I100-HV-BSP requires suitable 1-inch male BSP threaded fittings. Removable unions on both sides of the valve are useful because they simplify installation, servicing and future replacement.

Can the 100-HV be used for drip irrigation?

Yes. For low-flow or Xerigation applications, Rain Bird specifies a 200-mesh filter upstream of the valve. Depending on the drip system, an appropriate pressure regulator may also be required.

Does the 100-HV have flow control?

No. The 100-HV does not have adjustable flow control. Choose the 100-HVF if you require this function.

Can the valve be operated manually?

Yes. The 100-HV provides manual operation directly at the valve, making it useful for system start-up, testing and maintenance.

Is the 100-HV battery operated?

No. This version uses a 24 VAC solenoid and is intended for wired irrigation controllers. Battery-operated controllers require a compatible latching solenoid version.
