Rain Bird LFV-075 24V low-flow valve for drip irrigation
The Rain Bird LFV-075 is a specialised 24 VAC irrigation valve designed specifically for low-flow applications. Unlike conventional irrigation valves, the LFV Series is engineered for drip irrigation, micro irrigation and other zones where only relatively small amounts of water are required.
The LFV-075 uses ¾-inch female connections and operates reliably at very low flow rates. Rain Bird currently specifies a flow range of 0.6 to 30 l/min for the LFV-075, equivalent to approximately 0.036 to 1.8 m³/h. Operating pressure ranges from 1.0 to 10.3 bar.
Designed specifically for low-flow irrigation
The key advantage of the LFV-075 is its ability to operate reliably in irrigation zones with very low water demand. This makes it particularly suitable for dripline, individual emitters and small micro-irrigation systems.
Small drip zones can therefore be controlled independently rather than being combined with much higher-flow lawn sprinkler zones.
Unique double-knife diaphragm
The LFV uses Rain Bird's unique double-knife diaphragm combined with a ½-inch diameter valve seat. This design helps the valve operate reliably at low flow rates and allows small particles to pass through the valve.
This is particularly important in drip irrigation, where conventional valve designs can be more sensitive to particles when operating at very low flows.
Double-filtered pilot flow
The LFV Series uses a double-filtered pilot-flow design. The filtration helps protect the valve's control passages and contributes to reliable operation under low-flow conditions.
Why is the LFV often sold with a filter?
The LFV itself is designed to handle low flow rates and particles effectively. However, drip emitters and dripline have small water passages that require clean water to reduce the risk of clogging.
For this reason, LFV valves are frequently used as part of a complete control-zone assembly with a downstream filter and pressure regulator. Rain Bird also offers factory control-zone kits based on this principle.
24 VAC automatic control
This LFV-075 version uses a conventional 24 VAC, 50/60 Hz solenoid and can be controlled by a compatible wired irrigation controller.
The valve is normally closed. When the corresponding controller station is activated, the solenoid opens the valve and supplies water to the drip or micro-irrigation zone.
Manual operation and flushing
Internal bleed allows spray-free manual operation directly at the valve. External manual bleed can be used to flush dirt and debris from the system during installation and system start-up.
Ideal for dripline and emitters
The LFV-075 is particularly suitable for flower beds, hedges, raised beds, planting rows, greenhouses and other areas irrigated with dripline or individual emitters.
Its low-flow design makes it possible to automate small irrigation zones that would otherwise be difficult to operate reliably with a conventional higher-flow irrigation valve.
LFV compared with conventional DV valves
The LFV Series incorporates proven Rain Bird valve technology but adds a diaphragm design specifically developed for low-flow applications. This makes it particularly suitable for drip and micro irrigation.
For large lawn sprinkler zones with substantially higher water demand, conventional DV, PGA, PEB or other appropriately sized irrigation valves are generally more suitable.

Installation and accessories
Do I need an additional filter?
Suitable filtration is recommended for drip irrigation. The LFV's internal filters primarily protect the valve's pilot system and should not automatically be considered a replacement for a system filter protecting dripline and emitters.
Do I need a pressure regulator?
This depends on the dripline or emitters being used and the available supply pressure. Many drip irrigation products require a lower and relatively stable operating pressure, in which case a suitable downstream pressure regulator should be installed.
Why can the filter be installed downstream of the LFV?
The LFV diaphragm is designed to allow particles to pass through the valve even at low flow rates. This allows the system filter protecting the drip irrigation components to be positioned downstream of the valve.
Frequently asked questions about the Rain Bird LFV-075
What is the LFV-075 designed for?
It is specifically designed for low-flow irrigation zones such as dripline, individual emitters and micro-irrigation systems.
Why use an LFV for drip irrigation?
Small drip zones may use substantially less water than lawn sprinkler zones. The LFV is specifically engineered to operate reliably at these low flow rates.
Does the LFV-075 include filtration?
The valve includes filtration within its pilot-flow system. However, suitable system filtration is still recommended to protect dripline and emitters against clogging.
Does the LFV-075 regulate pressure?
No. The individual valve does not include integrated pressure regulation. Rain Bird offers complete control-zone kits that combine an LFV valve with filtration and pressure regulation.
What is the difference between LFV-075 and LFV-100?
The LFV-075 is the ¾-inch version, while the LFV-100 uses a 1-inch connection. Both are designed specifically for low-flow irrigation applications.
Is a battery-operated LFV available?
Yes. Rain Bird also documents an LFV-075 version with a 9V latching solenoid for compatible battery-operated irrigation controllers.
