Rain Bird 100-HVF with adjustable flow control

The Rain Bird 100-HVF is a compact 24 VAC solenoid valve for automatic lawn and garden irrigation systems. With a flow range of 0.05 to 6.82 m³/h, an operating pressure range of 1.0 to 10.3 bar and 1-inch female threaded connections, it is suitable for a wide range of residential irrigation zones.

The key advantage over the standard 100-HV is the integrated flow-control mechanism. It allows the maximum flow through the valve to be adjusted directly at the valve, providing additional control when balancing different irrigation zones.

Integrated flow control

The F in HVF indicates Flow Control. A control handle on top of the valve allows the water flow through the irrigation zone to be restricted as required.

This is particularly useful when individual zones have different hydraulic requirements or when the flow through a specific sprinkler or drip irrigation zone needs to be limited.

24 VAC automatic operation

The standard I100-HVF-BSP uses a 24 VAC, 50/60 Hz solenoid and is designed for conventional wired irrigation controllers. When the corresponding controller station is activated, the valve opens automatically and supplies the irrigation zone.

Flow range up to 6.82 m³/h

Rain Bird specifies a flow range of approximately 0.05 to 6.82 m³/h, equivalent to approximately 0.8 to 113 l/min.

For flow rates below 0.68 m³/h or Landscape Drip applications, Rain Bird specifies a 200-mesh filter installed upstream of the valve.

Operating pressure from 1.0 to 10.3 bar

The 100-HVF operates across a broad pressure range of approximately 1.0 to 10.3 bar. The pressure requirements of downstream sprinklers, rotors or drip components must still be considered separately.

The integrated flow control is not a pressure regulator. If a downstream irrigation system requires a specific reduced pressure, a suitable separate pressure regulator must be installed.

Smooth closing and durable construction

The HV Series uses an eccentric balanced-pressure Buna-N diaphragm designed for smoother closing and reduced water hammer. A self-cleaning 90-mesh pilot water filter and captured stainless steel spring are incorporated into the valve design.

The body is manufactured from glass-filled polypropylene for strength and long-term use in automatic irrigation systems.

Compact installation in valve boxes

The flow-control version is approximately 14.3 cm high, 11.2 cm long and 7.9 cm wide. Its compact dimensions allow several valves to be installed together in an irrigation valve box.

Manual operation

The valve can be operated manually without using the irrigation controller. Internal bleed provides spray-free manual operation, while external bleed can be used to flush dirt and debris from the system during installation and start-up.

Installation with 1-inch BSP female threads

The European I100-HVF-BSP version features 1-inch BSP female threaded connections on both the inlet and outlet. Suitable 1-inch male threaded fittings or unions can therefore be used to connect the valve to an irrigation manifold.

Removable unions are particularly useful because they simplify future servicing or replacement of the valve.

100-HVF compared with 100-HV

Both models belong to the same HV Series and share the same basic pressure and flow ranges. The main difference is flow control.

The 100-HV opens and closes the irrigation zone without a separate flow adjustment. The 100-HVF adds an adjustable flow-control mechanism, making it the more flexible option when individual irrigation zones need to be hydraulically balanced.

Installation and frequently asked questions

What does the F in 100-HVF mean?

The F indicates Flow Control. Unlike the standard 100-HV, the 100-HVF allows the maximum water flow to be adjusted directly at the valve.

Does flow control also regulate pressure?

No. Flow control restricts water flow but does not automatically maintain a specific downstream pressure. A separate pressure regulator is required when a defined reduced pressure is needed.

Can the 100-HVF be used for drip irrigation?

Yes. Rain Bird specifies an upstream 200-mesh filter for Landscape Drip applications or flow rates below 0.68 m³/h. Depending on the drip system, a separate pressure regulator may also be required.
