Rain Bird 8005-SAM for large turf and sports fields

The Rain Bird 8005 is a heavy-duty gear-driven pop-up rotor designed for large lawns, sports fields, parks and professional irrigation systems. With a radius of approximately 11.9 to 24.7 m, it provides substantially greater coverage than smaller residential and commercial rotors.

One of its key advantages is the ability to operate as both a part-circle and a full-circle rotor in the same sprinkler. Part-circle coverage can be adjusted from 50° to 330°, while the rotor can also be switched to continuous non-reversing 360° full-circle operation.

Part-circle and continuous full-circle in one rotor

The 8005 eliminates the need to choose separate part-circle and full-circle models. A selector at the top of the rotor switches between both operating modes.

This makes the rotor highly flexible for professional layouts. The same model can be used along the edge of a sports field or centrally within a large open turf area.

Memory Arc for demanding applications

Rain Bird's Memory Arc system automatically returns the rotor to its original arc setting if the turret is forced outside the programmed watering area.

A non-strippable drive mechanism also protects the internal gear system against forced rotation. These features are particularly valuable on public turf and sports fields.

Rain Curtain nozzle technology

Colour-coded three-port Rain Curtain nozzles distribute water through the close-in, mid-range and long-range areas of the watering pattern.

Large droplets improve wind resistance while close-in watering helps prevent dry turf immediately around the sprinkler. This provides more uniform distribution across the complete radius.

Rain Curtain nozzles included

Suitable Rain Curtain nozzles are included with the sprinkler. They allow flow, radius and irrigation performance to be matched to the available water supply and the requirements of the irrigation layout.

The interchangeable nozzle system makes the Rain Bird 8005 highly adaptable for different large turf and sports field applications.

Integrated SAM check valve

The Seal-A-Matic check valve holds approximately 3.1 m of elevation difference and helps prevent low-head drainage after the irrigation zone shuts down.

This reduces puddling, erosion and unnecessary water loss around lower sprinkler locations.

Professional flow performance

The Rain Bird 8005 operates at approximately 3.5 to 6.9 bar. Depending on nozzle size and pressure, flow ranges from approximately 0.86 to 8.24 m³/h or 14.4 to 137.4 l/min.

Available dynamic pressure, water flow, pipe sizing and valve capacity should therefore be checked carefully when designing a zone with multiple 8005 rotors.

Installation

The rotor uses a 1-inch female threaded inlet. A properly sized swing joint or flexible rotor connection is recommended for professional installation.

The body is approximately 25.7 cm high and the riser extends approximately 12.7 cm during irrigation. The top of the retracted sprinkler should be installed approximately level with the finished turf surface.

8005 compared with Falcon 6504

The Falcon 6504 is already designed for large turf areas, but the 8005 provides a greater maximum radius and combines adjustable part-circle and continuous full-circle operation in the same rotor.

The 8005 is therefore particularly attractive for professional layouts where long spacing and flexible rotor placement are required.
