Rain Bird 8005-SS-SAM for demanding large turf irrigation

The Rain Bird 8005-SS is a heavy-duty gear-driven pop-up rotor designed for sports fields, parks, large lawns and professional irrigation systems. It combines a radius of approximately 11.9 to 24.7 m with a stainless steel riser, integrated SAM check valve and selectable part- or full-circle operation.

The stainless steel version is particularly suited to demanding and publicly accessible areas where increased resistance to mechanical damage and vandalism is important.

Stainless steel riser for increased durability

SS stands for Stainless Steel. The riser is protected by a stainless steel cover that provides additional mechanical protection compared with the standard 8005.

This makes the 8005-SS particularly suitable for sports fields, schools, parks and other heavily used landscapes.

Part-circle and continuous full-circle operation

In part-circle mode the watering arc can be adjusted from approximately 50° to 330°. The rotor can also be switched to continuous non-reversing 360° full-circle operation.

This allows the same rotor model to be used both along turf boundaries and in central positions within large open areas.

Memory Arc protection

Rain Bird's Memory Arc technology automatically returns the rotor to its original arc setting if the turret is forced outside the selected watering area.

A non-strippable drive mechanism provides additional protection against forced rotation, making the rotor particularly useful in public and sports turf applications.

Rain Curtain nozzle technology

Rain Curtain nozzles use three water outlets to distribute water across the close-in, mid-range and long-range portions of the watering pattern.

Large droplets improve wind resistance while dedicated close-in watering helps prevent dry areas around the sprinkler.

Suitable Rain Curtain nozzles are included with the rotor. Different nozzle sizes allow flow, radius and irrigation performance to be matched to the available water supply and the requirements of the irrigation layout.

Integrated SAM check valve

The Seal-A-Matic check valve holds approximately 3.1 m of elevation difference and helps prevent low-head drainage after the irrigation system shuts down.

This reduces puddling, erosion and unnecessary water loss at lower sprinkler positions.

Professional performance for large areas

The Rain Bird 8005-SS operates at approximately 3.5 to 6.9 bar. Depending on nozzle size and pressure, flow ranges from approximately 0.86 to 8.24 m³/h or 14.4 to 137.4 l/min.

Available water flow, dynamic pressure, pipe sizing and valve capacity should therefore be checked carefully when designing irrigation zones with multiple 8005 rotors.

Installation

The rotor uses a 1-inch female threaded inlet. European versions are available with BSP threads. A properly sized swing joint or flexible rotor connection is recommended for installation.

The body is approximately 25.7 cm high and the riser extends approximately 12.7 cm during operation. The top of the retracted sprinkler should be installed approximately level with the finished turf surface.

8005-SS compared with standard 8005

Both versions use the same basic 8005 irrigation platform with Memory Arc, SAM check valve and combined full- and part-circle operation.

The key difference is the stainless steel protected riser of the 8005-SS, which provides additional mechanical protection in demanding installations.

8005-SS compared with Falcon 6504-SS

The Falcon 6504-SS reaches approximately 20 m and is offered as separate PC and FC versions. The 8005-SS provides both part-circle and continuous full-circle operation in one rotor and reaches up to approximately 24.7 m.
