Rain Bird RWS-B-1401 root watering system - 91.4 cm height

Root watering for trees and larger woody plants

The Rain Bird RWS-B-1401 is an underground root watering system designed to deliver water directly into the root zone of trees and larger woody plants. Instead of applying water only at the soil surface, the system delivers it into deeper soil layers, helping maintain moisture where plant roots can access it.

With a height of 91.4 cm, the RWS-B-1401 is the full-size standard version in the Rain Bird RWS range. It is particularly suitable for trees, newly planted specimens and locations where deeper root-zone irrigation is required. The system can be used in both private gardens and professional landscapes.

Integrated 1401 bubbler delivering 0.95 l/min

The RWS-B-1401 is factory equipped with a Rain Bird 1401 bubbler. It delivers 0.95 l/min, corresponding to approximately 57 l/h, providing a defined water flow for controlled root-zone irrigation.

The bubbler is mounted on a riser inside the perforated basket. Water is released below ground and can move through the openings in the system into the surrounding soil.

91.4 cm height for deeper root zones

The semi-rigid perforated basket measures 91.4 cm in length and 10.2 cm in diameter. Below-ground water delivery helps target deeper soil layers while reducing losses caused by wind and surface evaporation.

Particularly for newly planted trees, supplying water directly to the root zone can support successful establishment. Deeper irrigation can also encourage deeper root development. The number of root watering systems required depends on factors such as tree size, soil conditions and water demand.

Locking grate at ground level

The top of the RWS-B-1401 features a durable 10.2 cm locking grate. During installation, the grate is positioned flush with finished grade or the top of the surrounding mulch layer.

This keeps most of the irrigation system hidden below ground and allows it to blend discreetly into the landscape. The locking grate also provides access to the inside of the system while protecting the internal bubbler.

Flexible connection for easy installation

The Rain Bird RWS-B-1401 includes a factory-installed flexible swing assembly approximately 30.5 cm long. This simplifies connection to the underground irrigation line and provides flexibility when positioning the root watering system.

The connection features a ½" male NPT inlet. During installation, the unit is positioned vertically below ground. Rain Bird recommends filling the perforated basket with suitable gravel. In extremely hard or clay soils, additional gravel beneath and around the basket can improve water infiltration.
