The Rain Bird MAXI-PAW 2045A is a robust pop-up impact sprinkler designed for medium to large lawns and automatic irrigation systems. Unlike conventional gear-driven rotors, the MAXI-PAW uses a proven impact drive with straight-through water flow. Rain Bird specifically highlights this design for reliable performance in dirty-water applications, making the sprinkler particularly interesting for irrigation systems where water quality may not always be ideal.

Proven impact drive

The water jet operates a mechanical impact arm that progressively rotates the sprinkler. This proven design creates the characteristic movement of an impact sprinkler while providing reliable distribution across the irrigated area.

The relatively unrestricted water path helps the MAXI-PAW operate effectively in applications involving less-than-perfect irrigation water.

Part-circle and full-circle operation

The watering arc can be adjusted from approximately 20° to 340° for part-circle applications. This makes it possible to irrigate along boundaries, paths and irregular lawn edges.

The same sprinkler can also operate as a 360° full-circle unit, allowing the MAXI-PAW to be installed both around the perimeter and within the centre of larger lawn areas.

Radius up to 13.7 metres

Depending on nozzle and operating pressure, the MAXI-PAW provides a radius of approximately 6.7 to 13.7 m. The radius reduction screw can reduce the throw to approximately 5.4 m when required.

Standard and low-angle nozzles

Five standard trajectory nozzles are available in sizes 06, 07, 08, 10 and 12. These use an approximately 23° outlet trajectory. Two additional low-angle nozzles, 07 LA and 10 LA, use an approximately 11° trajectory.

The interchangeable nozzle system allows flow, radius and irrigation performance to be adapted to the available water supply and the requirements of the lawn.

Flexible installation

The MAXI-PAW provides a combination 1/2-inch or 3/4-inch female bottom inlet as well as a 1/2-inch female side inlet. For conventional underground lawn irrigation, the bottom connection is generally the preferred installation method.

The body is approximately 23.6 cm high and the sprinkler pops up approximately 7.6 cm during operation. The exposed surface diameter is approximately 12.7 cm.

Serviceable from the top

The internal sprinkler assembly can be serviced and removed through the top of the housing. Rain Bird also offers the 42064 MAXI-PAW wrench and lifting tool for easier removal of the internal assembly.

MAXI-PAW compared with a gear-driven rotor

The main difference is the drive system. Conventional rotors use an internal gear mechanism, while the MAXI-PAW uses a mechanical impact arm. The straight-through flow design makes the MAXI-PAW particularly useful in dirty-water applications.

Gear-driven rotors generally operate more quietly, while the MAXI-PAW provides the characteristic movement and operating sound of a traditional impact sprinkler.
