Wi-Fi module and sensors for this irrigation controller:
Automatic irrigation control for 12 zones
The Rain Bird ESP-TM2I12-230V is a powerful irrigation controller designed to operate up to twelve independent watering zones. This indoor version is intended for installation in a dry, protected location and is particularly suitable for larger residential gardens and extensive automatic irrigation systems.
With twelve stations, the garden can be divided into precisely defined irrigation areas. Multiple lawns, flower beds, hedges, vegetable gardens and drip irrigation systems can each be controlled by separate valves and receive watering times suited to their individual requirements.
The ESP-TM2 operates fully automatically without Wi-Fi or internet access. If smartphone and remote control are required later, the controller can be upgraded with the separately available Rain Bird LNK2 WiFi module.
Ideal for larger irrigation systems
Twelve stations provide plenty of flexibility when planning an irrigation system. Instead of combining areas with very different watering requirements, the garden can be divided into smaller, individually controlled irrigation circuits.
One station normally represents an irrigation circuit controlled by a 24V AC valve. Multiple pop-up rotors, spray heads, drip lines or other irrigation components can operate downstream of each valve.
The number of sprinklers within a zone is not determined by the controller. Available water pressure, flow and the combined water demand of all sprinklers within the circuit are the important factors.
Simple operation despite twelve zones
The ESP-TM2 remains straightforward to operate even when controlling twelve irrigation zones. A large backlit LCD, central dial and clearly arranged buttons make programming directly at the controller easy.
Set the required watering days, start times and station run times and the controller automatically carries out the stored irrigation schedules. A smartphone or internet connection is not required for normal operation.
Individual stations, complete programs or all stations can also be operated manually, which is particularly useful during installation, maintenance and system testing.
Three programs with up to twelve start times
The ESP-TM2 provides three independent irrigation programs with four separate start times available for each program, providing up to twelve programmed start times in total.
Station run times can be set from 1 minute to 6 hours, making the controller suitable for conventional lawn irrigation as well as slower drip irrigation applications.
Multiple start times can also divide watering into shorter cycles where soil conditions or slopes make this beneficial.
Flexible watering day schedules
Watering can be programmed for selected weekdays, odd or even calendar days or cyclic intervals from 1 to 30 days.
Permanent no-water days can be defined, while a watering delay of up to 14 days allows automatic irrigation to be temporarily suspended without deleting the underlying schedules.
Seasonal adjustment from 5 to 200%
Seasonal adjustment makes it easy to adapt irrigation duration as weather and seasonal conditions change. Programmed run times can be adjusted between 5 and 200% without individually reprogramming all twelve stations.
The original irrigation schedules remain stored as the basis for the adjustment, making seasonal changes much easier to manage.
Standard 24V AC irrigation valves
The ESP-TM2I12-230V is designed to control conventional 24V AC irrigation valves. This includes many Rain Bird valves as well as suitable valves from other manufacturers.
In a typical installation, one control wire from each valve connects to its corresponding station terminal. The second wires are connected through the common circuit to the controller's COM terminal.
Suitable examples include appropriate 24V versions of Rain Bird HV, DV, DVF, PGA and PEB valves. Battery-operated 9V DC latching solenoids cannot be connected directly.
230V input with 24V valve control
The 230V designation refers to the controller's mains supply. The irrigation valves themselves are controlled using 24V AC rather than mains voltage.
Rain Bird specifies a maximum output of 0.65A at 24V AC for the indoor version. Master valve and pump-start relay operation are also supported.
Compact indoor installation
The TM2I12-230V is specifically designed for dry, protected indoor installation. Suitable locations include garages, basements, utility rooms and protected garden buildings.
The compact indoor enclosure measures approximately 16.8 cm high, 16.7 cm wide and 4 cm deep, so even the twelve-station model requires relatively little wall space.
Rain sensor integration
A compatible rain or rain/freeze sensor can be connected to the ESP-TM2 to suspend automatic irrigation when natural rainfall makes watering unnecessary.
Sensor bypass can be applied globally or to individual stations. This is particularly useful in a twelve-zone system where some areas may need to continue watering independently of the rain sensor.
Master valve and pump-start support
The ESP-TM2 supports a master valve or pump-start circuit in addition to its twelve irrigation stations. Master valve operation can be enabled or disabled by station.
An irrigation pump is not powered directly from the valve output. A suitable external pump-start relay or pump control system is required.
Upgrade to Wi-Fi with LNK2
The ESP-TM2I12-230V does not include built-in Wi-Fi but can be upgraded with the separately available Rain Bird LNK2 WiFi module.
The LNK2 plugs directly into the dedicated accessory port, allowing Wi-Fi connectivity to be added without replacing the complete irrigation controller.
This means you can initially operate the ESP-TM2 conventionally and add smartphone and remote connectivity whenever required.
Smartphone and remote irrigation control
With the LNK2 WiFi module installed, supported irrigation functions can be managed from a compatible smartphone. With an active internet connection, remote access is also available.
This allows irrigation settings to be checked, schedules to be changed and individual zones to be manually operated even when you are away from the controller.
The LNK2 requires a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and does not support a network operating exclusively at 5 GHz.
Automatic irrigation continues without Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is not required to run stored irrigation programs. Schedules are stored locally in the ESP-TM2 and executed directly by the controller.
If Wi-Fi or internet access is temporarily unavailable, normal automatic irrigation continues. Only remote and internet-dependent functions are unavailable until connectivity is restored.
Nonvolatile memory permanently retains the programming, while an internal lithium battery maintains the controller's date and time during power outages.
Fixed 12-station capacity
The ESP-TM2I12-230V is the largest ESP-TM2 version and provides twelve fixed station outputs. Its station capacity cannot be expanded with additional modules.
If twelve irrigation circuits are sufficient, this provides a straightforward solution without additional expansion modules. For systems requiring greater future expansion, a modular controller such as the Rain Bird ESP-ME3 may be more appropriate.
