Automatic irrigation control for 8 zones

The Rain Bird ESP-TM2I8-230V is a reliable irrigation controller designed to operate up to eight independent watering zones. This compact indoor version is intended for installation in a dry, protected location and is particularly suitable for larger residential gardens with several lawn areas, flower beds, hedges and drip irrigation systems.

Eight stations provide plenty of flexibility when dividing a garden into separate irrigation circuits. Different areas can each be controlled through their own irrigation valve and programmed according to their individual water requirements.

The ESP-TM2 operates fully automatically without Wi-Fi or internet access. If smartphone and remote control are required later, the controller can be upgraded with the separately available Rain Bird LNK2 WiFi module.

Ideal for larger residential irrigation systems

Eight irrigation zones provide sufficient capacity for a detailed division of the garden. The front garden, several lawn areas, vegetable beds, flower beds and hedges can all be controlled independently.

One zone represents an irrigation circuit controlled by a 24V AC valve. Multiple sprinklers or other irrigation components can be installed downstream of this valve.

The number of sprinklers within a zone is determined by the available water pressure, flow and combined water demand rather than by the controller itself.

Simple operation directly at the controller

Despite its extensive capabilities, the ESP-TM2 is straightforward to operate. A large backlit LCD, central dial and clearly arranged buttons make programming directly at the controller simple.

Set the current time, watering days, start times and station run times and the controller automatically carries out the programmed irrigation schedules.

Manual watering can also be started directly at the controller, allowing individual stations or complete programs to be tested whenever required.

Three programs for different watering requirements

The ESP-TM2 provides three independent irrigation programs with up to four start times available for each program.

Individual station run times can be set from 1 minute to 6 hours, making the controller suitable for conventional lawn sprinklers as well as drip irrigation systems requiring longer watering periods.

Multiple start times can also be used to divide watering into several shorter cycles where soil conditions make this beneficial.

Flexible watering day schedules

Watering can be scheduled using selected weekdays, odd or even calendar days and cyclic intervals. Permanent no-water days can also be defined.

Seasonal adjustment from 5 to 200% allows watering duration to be adapted to changing conditions without reprogramming every individual station.

Standard 24V AC irrigation valve control

The ESP-TM2I8-230V controls conventional 24V AC irrigation valves commonly used in permanently installed garden irrigation systems.

In a typical installation, one wire from each irrigation valve connects to its corresponding station terminal. The second valve wires are connected through the common circuit to the controller's COM terminal.

Suitable valves include appropriate 24V versions of Rain Bird HV, DV, DVF, PGA and PEB models. Battery-operated 9V DC latching solenoids cannot be connected directly.

230V input and 24V valve output

The 230V specification refers to the controller's mains power supply. Irrigation valves themselves are controlled using 24V AC rather than mains voltage.

Rain Bird specifies a maximum output of 0.65A at 24V AC for the indoor version. Master valve and pump-start relay operation are also supported.

Compact indoor version

The TM2I8-230V is specifically designed for protected indoor installation. Suitable locations include garages, basements, utility rooms and dry garden buildings.

The compact indoor enclosure measures approximately 16.8 cm high, 16.7 cm wide and 4 cm deep, requiring very little wall space.

Rain sensor connection

A compatible rain or rain/freeze sensor can be connected directly to the ESP-TM2, allowing automatic irrigation to be suspended when natural rainfall makes watering unnecessary.

Compatible Rain Bird accessories include the RSD-BEx and WR2 sensor families. Sensor bypass can be configured by station.

Master valve and pump-start support

The ESP-TM2 supports a master valve or pump-start relay in addition to its eight irrigation stations.

An irrigation pump is not powered directly from the controller's valve output. A suitable external pump-start relay or pump control system is required.

Upgrade to Wi-Fi with the LNK2 module

The ESP-TM2I8-230V does not include built-in Wi-Fi but can be upgraded using the separately available Rain Bird LNK2 WiFi module.

The module plugs directly into the dedicated accessory port, allowing Wi-Fi connectivity to be added without replacing the complete irrigation controller.

Smartphone and remote irrigation control

With the LNK2 WiFi module installed, supported functions can be managed from a compatible mobile device. When an internet connection is available, remote access allows irrigation settings and manual watering to be managed away from home.

The LNK2 uses a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. A network operating exclusively at 5 GHz is not compatible.

Automatic irrigation continues without Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is not required for the execution of stored irrigation programs. The ESP-TM2 stores its schedules locally and runs them independently.

If Wi-Fi or internet access is temporarily unavailable, normal automatic irrigation continues. Only remote and internet-dependent functions are unavailable until connectivity is restored.

Nonvolatile memory permanently retains the programming, while an internal lithium battery maintains the controller's time and date during power outages.

Fixed 8-station capacity

The ESP-TM2I8-230V provides eight fixed station outputs and is not a modular controller that can later be expanded by adding station modules.

If more than eight irrigation zones may be required in the future, the 12-station ESP-TM2 or a modular controller such as the Rain Bird ESP-ME3 should be considered from the beginning.

What do eight zones mean?

The controller provides eight station outputs and can therefore operate up to eight separate irrigation circuits. Each station normally controls one irrigation valve.

Can several sprinklers be connected to one zone?

Yes. Multiple sprinklers can operate downstream of one valve provided that the available water pressure and flow are sufficient for their combined water demand.
